About us
The Archivio Alighiero Boetti (the Alighiero Boetti
Archive) is a Cultural Association started in 1995 upon
the initiative of the Artist’s family. The Archive
Association does not comprehend a collection of
artworks. It is rather a research site aimed at
retrieving, collecting and cataloguing the documentation
inherent to the artist’s works and life.
Our research ultimately heads at publishing the
Alighiero Boetti Catalogue Raisonné . The first
volume of the Catalogue Raisonné (1961-1971) was
published in December 2009 and we are currently working
on the second volume (1972-1979).
The Catalogue Raisonné is a complete and reliable
documentary, philological and historical reference frame
for the artwork of Alighiero Boetti.
Currently, the staff is composed of an Executive
Committee (Chair: Agata Boetti; Director: Anne Marie
Sauzeau; President of the Technical committee and in
charge of expertise meetings: Matteo Boetti) and
Registrar staff (Ilaria Giaccone, Arianna Mercanti).
For expertise reports, the Executive Committee is sided
by a consultant group of former assistants of the artist
(Mariangela De Gaetano, Andrea Marescalchi) Furthermore
the Archive regularly recurs to external collaborators
such as technical experts, graphologists, art historians
and legal consultants.
Procedure
In connection with the constant updating of its
database, the Archive also provides expertise reports
on Alighiero Boetti’s works (see
Registration). The expertise takes place solely upon
request of the collectionists and also in the interest
of the Archive which stands guarantor for the safeguard
of the Artist’s work. Such function may occasionally
imply reporting or denouncing illicit facts connected to
a particular piece.
In the eventuality of a private or public sale, the
Archive will be pleased to supply an accurate report
concerning any work that has been formally
authenticated. While when the sale has yet been
concluded (auction houses and/or other means) we would
be grateful to the new owner if he/she contacted us
firstly to be informed on whether he/she wants the work
to figure in the Catalogue and which formula the
collector prefers for the description, and also to help
us in keeping track of each individual piece of art in
our database.
Other activities
The Archivio Alighiero Boetti participates in the
organisation of exhibitions, catalogues and other
cultural activities, with the purpose of promoting the
artist’s work. Our collaborations include both public
institutions and private galleries (museums, foundations
and galleries), among the most prestigious ones at
international level.
Services
Access to our premises and consultation of
the thematic library, the photographic
material and the bio-bibliographical
documentation must be agreed in advance
scheduling an appointment.
